Why 50,000 People Come to Penticton Every August
Peach Festival is five days of free live entertainment, family programming, and community events centred at Okanagan Lake Park in the heart of Penticton. It’s been a staple of the Okanagan summer for decades — the kind of event people plan road trips and extended stays around. Most visitors spend full days at the festival grounds, which is exactly why dog care during those hours isn’t an afterthought. It’s the whole puzzle piece that makes the trip work.

What Peach Festival Actually Is (And Why 50,000 People Show Up)
The 79th Annual Penticton Peach Festival runs August 5–9, 2026 — five days of free events centred at Okanagan Lake Park on 86 Lakeshore Drive. It’s one of the largest free family festivals in Canada, and it’s been an Okanagan tradition since 1947.

The main stage runs all day with live music and entertainment. The Peters Bros. Grand Parade takes over downtown on Saturday morning. There’s a KidsZone at Gyro Park from August 7–9, carnival rides at Rotary Park, a sandcastle competition at Skaha Beach on Thursday, and the PeachDuro mountain bike event out at Three Blind Mice Trails. Events are spread across several parks and the waterfront — it’s the kind of thing where you end up spending more time than you planned.
Dogs are not permitted at the festival grounds. It’s a packed, high-traffic event and the organizers ask all visitors to leave pets at home. If you’re in Penticton for the week with your dog, you’ll want a plan for the days you’re out.
